Gap Year in Mexico

Mexico is crossed from north to south by two mountain ranges - Sierra Madre Oriental and Sierra Madre Occidental. From east to west at the center, the country is crossed by the Sierra Nevada. Central and northern Mexico is at high altitude (going up to 5,700 metres). The country has around 100 million inhabitants and is home to many US citizens (bit like Spain for retiring Brits). Volunteering opportunities exist in social and enviromental schemes and the country is generally backpacker friendly. Down on the stunning beaches there are watersports schools that employ travellers and also there are some house sitting possibilities.
