Aupair is taken from French and means "on a par" or "equal to". This refers to the relationship between an Aupair and a family should be one of equals. The spirit of taking on an au pair should be to make the aupair a temporary member of the family, not a domestic servant. The Aupair helps in the home for a set number of working hours and receive a reasonable allowance and a private room in return. You should ask for a standard contract from the family so that everything is nice and clear from the outset.
There are lots of good au-pair jobs websites out there, ex seasonal childcare workers use the Season Workers childcare section as the first port of call. You should also register with a few agencies but watch out for scams!
Season Workers is iGapYear's sister site and is the UK's biggest and best jobs abroad website. Click on a link below to be taken through to the section of interest to you.
